Leo T. Bennett

Leo Thomas Bennett, 81, passed away while vacationing on the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian islands on September 14, 2013. He lived in Colorado Springs for 33 years.

Leo was born on September 14, 1932 in Olean, NY. He was the son of the late Thomas F. and Naomi E. Bennett.

Leo graduated from State College at Albany in 1954. He married Louise Petfield in 1955. Leo and Louise were married for 32 years, and raised three daughters.

He had a long and successful career in the computer industry. When he took early retirement in 1992, he was the Director of Information Technology for Digital Equipment Corporation's disk drive manufacturing plant in Colorado Springs. After retiring, Leo continued to use his management and leadership skills in various capacities. Leo served as President of the Board of Directors for two homeowner association groups over a period of 22 years.

In 1988 Leo married the former Joan O'Brien. Leo and Joan had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Leo was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time in the mountains camping, fly fishing, hunting, and hiking. He also enjoyed lake fishing and boating, playing golf, square dancing, playing bridge, traveling around the country, and visiting friends and family. He lived life to the fullest.

Leo is survived by his wife, Joan, his sister Agnes Senfield, his former wife Louise Burns and their three daughters, Patti Bennett, Kathy Holmes-Jumpp, Susan Brayman, and step-children John Seyer and Kathy Seyer, as well as 9 grandchildren.

Leo was intelligent, articulate, loving, capable and dependable. His wry sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. He has left a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved him.

Leo's memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N Cascade Ave in Colorado Springs on Saturday, September 28th at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Wildlife Federation or the First Lutheran Church memorial fund.
