Charles Kirkpatrick Obituary

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Charles L. Kirkpatrick, 101, died May 6, 2013, in New London.

Born Jan. 27, 1912, in Braintree, Mass., he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Maude W. (Lincoln) Kirkpatrick.

He was educated in Newton schools and graduated in 1933 from Bowdoin College and in 1936 from Harvard Law School.

Mr. Kirkpatrick joined American Writing Paper Corporation in Holyoke in 1938. He served as president and resident manager until retirement in 1977. He was then associated with the South Hadley law firm of Ryan, Boudreau, Randall, Kirkpatrick and Baker until 1995.

He lived in South Hadley from 1941 and was active in town government, having chaired the Appropriations Committee and served as Town Meeting Moderator from 1960 to 1980, as well as a town meeting member.

He was a life member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and former trustee of the First Congregational Church of South Hadley.

In 1936, he married Ruth F. Garrod and shared more than 57 years of marriage until her passing in 1994. In 1995, he married Joan K. Caley and retired to New London.

He is survived by his wife Joan of New London; sons Richard of Portsmouth and Dana of Northborough, Mass.; daughter Janice Galloway of Brookfield, Conn.; step-daughter Lynn Hsu of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are private. There are no calling hours. A memorial service may be held at a later date.

My condolences to the Kirkpatrick family. I will always remember working for Charles at RBRK and listening to his wonderful stories. He and his late wife Ruth were an inspirational to all lucky enough to have known them. Rest in Peace, Charles and God bless your family.
