Robert Warren Garlitz

Robert Warren Garlitz November 10, 1927 – October 22, 2011 Robert Warren Garlitz passed away on October 22, 2011, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Robert was the son of Joseph Leon and Florence Garlitz. He was born and raised in Fruita, Colorado, the youngest of seven children. Bob graduated from Fruita High School in 1945, and shortly afterward joined the U. S. Navy. He was in the Navy from October of 1945 to October of 1947, assigned to the U.S.S. Astoria. Bob married the love of his life, Arlene Mason Moss, while on leave on July 26, 1947, in Yuma, Arizona. They were married 64 wonderful years. Bob worked his early years for C. D. Smith, and retired after 35 years as the Director of Purchasing, working for numerous contractors at the old AEC compound, the last being Bendix Field Engineering. Bob enjoyed gardening and had one of the most beautiful iris gardens in the area. He also enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and playing cards. Bob is survived by his wife, Arlene; three children, Linda Lou (Robert) Whinery of La Grande, OR; Douglas Leon Garlitz of Grand Junction, CO, and Robert Eugene (Jackie) Garlitz of Grand Junction, CO. Bob also has eight grandchildren, Jeff, Chip, Candy, Holly, David, Michael, Ken and Cory; the foster family of Steve and Lisa Erkenbrack and their three children, and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Gospel Ministries Center at 1622 Glenwood, Grand Junction.
