SPENCER STRADER Obituary

Spencer Troy Strader, Jr. Spencer Troy Strader, Jr., 82, of 1610 Blair Loop Road, Danville, VA, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Strader was born on December 10, 1930 in Danville, VA a son of the late Spencer Troy Strader, Sr. and the late Pattie Harrison Strader. He spent most of his life in the Danville area where he was involved in the grocery business for more than fifty years and the owner and operator of Strader's Supermarket for 28 years. After his retirement he worked part time for Smith Davis Tire Co. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and he served his country in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954. On May 2, 1959 Mr. Strader married Norma Talley Strader who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, Mr. Strader is survived by two daughters, Lori Burnett and her husband, Ray Burnett of Ringgold, VA and Kelli Journey and her husband Ken of Choctaw, OK; four grandchildren, Corey Davis and his wife Kelsy of Las Vegas, NV, Rayanne Spencer Burnett of Ringgold, VA, Josh Burnett, of Ringgold, VA and Kollin Journey of Choctaw, OK; and a sister, Norma Strader Hudgins and husband S.N. "Slim" of Danville, VA. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Billy Scearce officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence, 1610 Blair Loop Road, Danville, VA 24541. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew at 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541 or to a charity of your choice.
