Reedis Odell (Goard) Jones

SWOOPE-Reedis Odell (Goard) Jones of 81 North Mountain Road, Swoope, formerly of Danville, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

Mrs. Jones was born May 25, 1924 in Danville, a daughter of the late Hugh R. and Maxie (Elliott) Goard.

Mrs. Jones was retired from Dan River Mills, Inc., in Danville. She was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church, Staunton and a former member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church, in Danville, where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She also attended the senior center in Staunton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis T. Jones, Sr. ; two brothers, Hugh D. Goard and Ira Goard; two sisters, Inez G. Doyel and Flossie G. McNichols.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki J. Drumheller and son-in-law Charles of Swoope; a son, Dennis T. Jones, Jr. and daughter-in-law Lisa of Greenwood, SC; six grandsons, Bill Drumheller and his wife Jessica of Centreville, Bobby Drumheller of Staunton, Brian Jones and his wife Holly of Toledo, OH, Tech Sergeant Brad Jones U.S. Air Force, Afganistan and his wife Sherrie of Fairborn, OH, Nick Jones of Greenwood and Jimmy Manning of Columbus, OH; a brother, Dr. Robert R. Goard of Charlottesville, VA, also survives her.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2009 in Highland Burial Park, Danville by Rev. Frank H. Wyche of Hebron Presbyterian Church.

As per her wishes, there will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron Presbyterian Church Christian Education Endowment Fund, 423 Hebron Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or to the Hospice of Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, to the Hospice of Piedmont, especially Monique DeVost and Dr. Daniel Wachspress of Carilion Clinic Family Medicine of Fort Defiance for the loving care she received, especially in her final days. Special thanks to all her friends in Staunton and Danville who kept in touch with phone calls, cards, and prayers.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive is in charge of her arrangements.
