John Eckert Obituary

MASON John Carlton "Corky" Eckert was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Mason, Texas. He passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, as the result of a fall suffered while playing tennis. His parents, Elgin E. Eckert and Rachel Lemburg Eckert, preceded him in death; as well as his brother, John Byron Eckert. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1949. In November 1954, he married Audrey Jane Wiggins and they made their home in Mason, Texas, for the following 59 years. He loved being a part of his family's world, his friends, life in the Texas Hill Country, tennis and his involvement in the livestock industry. He especially enjoyed visiting with his marketing friends. He never considered what he did for a livelihood to be "work" so he saw no need to retire. He is survived by his wife, Jane Eckert; son J. Carlton Eckert Jr. and Darla Larson of Ennis, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Billy Yeary of Lampasas, Texas; granddaughters Caley Ann Yeary and Carey Allison Yeary, as well as Jake and Zack Brown; nieces and nephew Laurie Eckert Johnson, Sun City, Ariz., Pam Eckert Fish, Seattle, Wash., and Tom Eckert, Pocatello, Idaho. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church of Mason with visitation immediately following in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family online at masonfuneralhome.net. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mason Funeral Home.

I met Corky @ Texas A&M in 1951 before the tu game. With a board in hand he made a lasting impression. His wife and my wife, both from Waco, have been life long friends. We have kept in touch over all these years. Corky will be remembered great friend, full of life and a true Fightin' Texas Aggie. Rest in peace my friend, Alan '52 and Ann Park Burton
