Hazel Bourne Obituary

Bourne, Hazel C. Age 95, a resident of Wyndemere Senior Living Community for the past 21 years, left this world on Thursday, April 16th, 2015, in the peaceful surroundings of her home with those who cared for her. She was born November 20, 1919 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to parents Maude and Herbert Pycock. A longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, she lived in Arrowhead for 23 years surrounded by many of her good friends and neighbors. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Natavio of Greer, SC and Nancy Bourne, of Dallas, TX and their husbands, Gene Natavio and Clint Shank, respectively. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Katherine Natavio of Hinsdale, IL, and Alex Natavio of Greer, SC. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 49 years, Edward J. Bourne, who left us much too soon at the age of 75 in 1994. Her brother, Douglas W. Ruoff, departed in 2007 at the age of 89 and his wife, Helen Ruoff, passed away in 2013 at the age of 94. Hazel cared deeply for others and spent many years volunteering to help other seniors at Wyndemere. She also enjoyed needlepoint and joined in the weekly group meetings there. She loved tennis and played until her early 60's with several of her friends. She was also active in the Arrowhead Diners group. She liked to travel and spent much time on the Florida Gulf Coast strolling the beach hunting for seashells. Earlier, she was actively involved in Unity Church, enjoyed singing and spent many years as Choir Director and belonged to the Mother Singers group. In her earlier years, Hazel attended Grand Rapids Junior College. She loved the daily story time readings, part of her work as a children's librarian, until Ed came home from WWII and proposed. She remained passionate about teddy bears, collecting them throughout her life and never met a bear she didn't like. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21st in the Anderson Auditorium, Lower Level, 200 Wyndemere Circle, Wheaton, Il 60187 with Rev. Sarah Sainsbury officiating. Interment will be held at the Blythefield Memory Gardens, Belmont, Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a non-profit organization supporting our veterans or other charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a guest book at hultgrenfh.com.
