Marilyn Dykstra Obituary

Dykstra (Witteveen), Marilyn Jean 3/22/1934 - 10/28/2016 Holland Age 82, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 after a brave 15-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Marilyn graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1952. She is a graduate of Kuyper College (formerly Reformed Bible College) and Eastern Michigan University. She taught hearing impaired children at Elim Christian School in Palos Heights, IL. After her six children were of age, she became an assistant teacher at Southside Christian School. Later, she was a cashier at Family Fare on South Washington Ave. Marilyn was a longtime member of Montello Park CRC and was a current member of Fourteenth Street CRC. She was a charter member of the Holland Chorale, where she sang for 22 years. She also sang with Evergreen Chorale. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert; children: Diana and Daniel Breuker of Holland, Kevin and Cindi Dykstra of Hamilton, Keith and Tonya Dykstra of Grand Haven, Kurt and Michele Dykstra of Holland, Karl and Tracy Dykstra of Holland, and Dawn and Mark Lundell of Grand Rapids; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters: Betty Oase of Bassett, NE, Shirley (Jason) Scholten of Zeeland, and Judy (Howard) Lubbers of Holland; in-laws: Marvin (Dorothy) Dykstra, Esther Dykstra, Earl (Lois) Dykstra, and Robert Busscher. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Pearl (Bredewey) Witteveen. The Dykstra family appreciated the loving care of Marilyn by the staff at the Verne & Lois Boersma Cottage at Resthaven Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, officiated by Rev. Leigh Van Kempen and Rev. Marvin Hofman. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 PM on Monday, October 31, 2016. Our sympathy to all of you on the loss of Marilyn. In the short time my dad has been at Boersma, we have seen the loving care she received from all of her family. We will miss seeing her there, and you too, Bob. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
