Evaleen Neufeld Obituary

Neufeld, Evaleen (Evie)

Evaleen (Evie) Neufeld (nee Everson), 86, passed away on Sept. 5, 2011. She was born on Sept. 20, 1924, to E. L. "Bert" and Grace Everson. She attended grade school and high school at St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay and later graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul with a degree in Social Sciences and Nutrition. She married Joseph Albert Neufeld on Oct. 16, 1957. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2004.

For many years Evie was a social worker with the Green Bay Diocese Apostolate where her experiences fostered a lifelong commitment to organizations dedicated to child welfare and education. She was a Board member at Encompass Early Education and Care, a Trustee at the College of St. Catherine (now St. Catherine University), a member of the Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame, and a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Norbert College.

Evie was an active member and supporter of numerous civic and cultural institutions, programs, and activities including PEO Chapter N, the Service League of Green Bay, Garden Club des Peres, and the Antiquarian Society. She also was a strong supporter of Heritage Hill State Park and Wisconsin Public Radio and Television.

Evie touched many lives; she is remembered as a gracious hostess, a tolerant non-judgmental friend, a quiet philanthropist, and a loving aunt.

Survivors include her sister, Edith "Tweetie" Everson, Green Bay; three brothers-in-law, Robert Hoffmann, John Arndorfer, and Jack Manley; and many loving nieces and nephews. Evie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; three sisters, Grace Mary Hoffmann, Mary Jane Arndorfer, and Margaret Manley; a brother, James Everson; as well as sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Patrick Martin.

Friends may call at Old St. Joseph Church on the St. Norbert College campus on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, from 3:30 p.m. until the funeral liturgy at 5:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. James Baraniak, O.Praem. Burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit Heritage Hill Foundation and Paul's Pantry. RYAN FUNERAL HOME of De Pere is assisting the family.

The family would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to the wonderful team of Mary, Julie, Karen, Kim, Kay, Mary Ellen, Kalee, Jennifer, Linda, Kaari, and Theresa for their assistance, compassion, and dedication to Evie's care; and to Kathy for bringing the birds, flowers, and animals into Evie's view from Scray's Hill.

The Guthrie Family

September 8, 2011

One of the best friends the Guthrie family and the city of Green Bay could ever have. We treasure the years of friendship that we had with you "Aunt Evie" and with your wonderful husband "Uncle Joe".

Fr. Stephen Rossey, OPraem.
