Margaret was active in the National Council for the Social Studies and served as a role model to new members such as myself. She was a dedicated teacher and researcher in the field of social studies education. I have fond memories of meals shared at conferences with Margaret and friends when we would hear of her latest project or study intended to inform and grow good teachers. Margaret Laughlin will be missed.

Margaret and I were professional friends and wrote many articles together. We shared rooms at meeting of professional groups. She had great insight in teaching and wanted youth to become good citizens. She loved to travel. If I remember correctly Margaret had visited every state in our nation and many nations. She often said that Vienna was her favorite city. She was high respected by those who knew her.

She was my advisor when I attended UW-GB for my teaching certificate. My first impression of her was not good; thank goodness that I don't go by that way of judging someone. She was absolutely wonderful. She was an outstanding teacher and mentor. I have left the profession, but she has left a great place in my memories. My condolences to her loved ones.
