Rosalie E. Edwards, Green Bay, was celebrating her 103rd year of life when she died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at her home. Rosalie was born Dec. 19, 1908, in Green Bay, to Adolph and Philomene (LeCoque) Garot. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Rosalie was baptized in the third St. John the Evangelist Church.
Rosalie graduated from St. John the Evangelist Grade School in 1923, and Green Bay East High School in 1927. She worked a number of years as a Hearing Aid Specialist and Sales Representative in the Green Bay area. She retired in 1973.
One of Rosalie's favorite activities was fishing on Green Bay near Red Banks and Riley's Point. She loved feeding and watching the birds, working in her flower garden, playing cards, putting puzzles together, reading, and cheering on the Packers. Rosalie enjoyed knitting baby blankets and afghans for generations of nieces and nephews. She was still knitting at 101 years old. She could often be found playing with the children in the yard or living room.
Rosalie was known by many nicknames; her sisters called her "Red", her nieces and nephews called her "Wodie" and her great-nieces and great-nephews called her "Wowo".
Survivors include one sister, Mary Louise Schampers (age 94) with whom she lived at Red Banks; Mary Louise's family, Thomas Schampers, Mary Jo Maroszek, William (Joan) Schampers, Robert (Linda) Schampers, Michael (Deb) Schampers; 18 great-nieces and great-nephews, 17 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and also many other nieces and nephews.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred Garot; a sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette (Ted) Wigman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfred (Lucile) Garot, Richard (Helen) Garot, Aelred (Maynon) Garot, Lawrence (Eileen) Garot, Denis (Marie) Garot; brothers-in-law, Marvin Schampers, Oswald Geniesse; and a great-nephew, Robert Maroszek.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 413 St. John Street, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with The Rev. John Girotti officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
