Peter Filipiak Sr.

1929 - 2011

Peter J. Filipiak Sr., 82, Green Bay, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 16, 2011, surrounded by his family, following a short and courageous battle with cancer. The son of Nicholas and Mary (Donarski) Filipiak was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Strandquist, Minn., where he married Lillian Mauer on Sept. 2, 1952. In March of 1953, the couple moved to Krakow, where they had a dairy farm. In 1958, they moved to Pulaski and, soon after, he began his career at Fort Howard. Peter retired from the mill after 33 years of employment. In 2003, Lillian and Peter sold their home near Pulaski and moved to Green Bay.

He was a member of the Pulaski Lions Club and the St. Mary's Pacers Walking Club. Pete was a distributor for Home Interiors and was a driver for the American Red Cross for many years. He loved to play dominos and enjoyed playing cards. He also enjoyed the outdoors and fishing and hunting in his younger years. Pete was a long-time member of SS. Edward & Isidore Parish in Flintville.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth, Pulaski; Peter, Jr., Mansfield, Texas; and Edward (Connie), Suamico; two daughters, Barbara Kolkowski (fiance, Paul Anderson), Green Bay; and Sharon Sell (companion, Jerry Bellmore), Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Tammy, Kevin, Holly, Lisa, Amy, Mitchell, Windy, Keith, Breanna, Robert, Renee, and Elvis James; nine great-grandchildren; his very, very special friend, Violet Evraets, Green Bay; Lillian's sister, Leona Chwialkowski, Lake Bronson, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Beverly Mauer, Aurora, Minn.; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 2004; a son, Gary, in 1982; and four sisters, Helen, Agnes, Rose, and Anna.

Friends may call at SS. Edward & Isidore Church, 3667 Flintville Rd. (Co. M), Flintville from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with Closing Prayers at 7 p.m. The visitation continues at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, Fr. David Kasperek presiding, with burial in the parish cemetery. Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski, is serving the Filipiak family.
