Smits, Richard G.

Richard G. Smits, 80, passed in peace on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI. Richard was born June 1, 1934, to George and Bernice (Sager) in Green Bay. He was a graduate of East High School in Green Bay. Before retiring he worked for Paper Converting and Siemens in quality control. He enjoyed golf, fishing, football, basketball, cribbage, chess and gardening. Family was important to him. Richard (Dick) loved to cook; he would find recipes and then experiment to make them his own. He was an active volunteer at Meals on Wheels.

Richard is loved and will be missed by his children, Cristine (Christopher) Jandrain of Green Bay and Naperville, IL, Cheryl (Cecil) Hill of Aguanga, CA and Jackson Hole, WY, Sue McAllister of Waupaca, Ron (Rachel) Smits of Green Bay and Bokeelia, FL, Terry (Jim) Smits of Green Bay; grandchildren, Sam, Adam, Eric, Matthew, Alex, Jami and Jessie; brothers and sisters, Janet (Lyle) Speerschneider of Glendale, AZ, Gayle Goodletson of Green Bay, Jack (Kathy) Smits of Green Valley, AZ; Jim (Rose) Smits of Sobieski, Tom (Mary) Smits of Green Bay and Mary Lou (Arnie) Kelnhofer of Green Bay; and his special friend and companion, Shirley Kemper. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bea Smits.

His family will have a private service to remember Richard's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) http://www.nami.org/ are welcome in Richard's name.
