Helen Lewis Crosland, 78, of 102 Castle Court in Clemson, SC and wife of Ben G. Crosland, died Wednesday, May 8th at Cottingham House Hospice in Seneca, SC.

Born in Oconee County, SC, she was a daughter of Walter Grady Lewis and Angilee Manley Lewis.

Helen was a 1953 graduate of Seneca High School and a 1955 graduate of the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received her Master's Degree in Education in 1980.

Helen was selected to implement a Patient Education Program at Oconee Memorial Hospital in 1980 and was employed there for 20 years in various roles, including Director of Quality Control and Risk Management. Helen was active in the South Carolina Hospital Association and served as President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

Helen was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Discussion Sunday School Class, helped establish a Parish Nurse Program, assisted with the CUMC Blood Bank, and was a lay scripture reader. She was a member of the Clemson University Women's Club and participated in two bridge groups and a book club. She enjoyed membership in the "Clemson Red Hat Society," was active in The Walker Course Ladies Golf Association, and coordinated a nine-hole group.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 57 years are three daughters, Kimberly Vaughn and her husband Charles of Marietta, GA, Kelly Hanke and her husband Bill of Roswell, GA, and Kristi Gazzo and her husband John of Middleburg Heights, OH; three granddaughters, Evin, Stephanie, and Rachel Hanke; three grandsons, Benjamin Beutel, Davis Vaughn, and Langston Vaughn; one great grandson, Kai Lewis Hanke-Maxwell; a sister, Ruth Leopard and her husband Hildon of Gainesville, GA.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 590, Clemson SC 29633 or to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.

A memorial service will be held at Clemson United Methodist Church on Friday, May 10th at 3:00 p.m., with a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private burial will be held for the immediate family. Arrangements are being handled by Davenport Funeral Home, West Union, SC.

Ben and your great family. Joyce and I learned today of Helen's triumphant passing to be with the Lord. We are in Carlsbad, New Mexico on one of our bucket list trips. Cannot be with you for the Service of Death and Resurrection and Celebration of Helen's life of service, faithfulness, compassion, and family. I will miss her greatly. Remember, we live very close to where you live and we will have opportunities to talk about Helen and to share life. Appreciate you so much, Ben.
