William Berry Obituary

William Ray Berry, 82, of Greenville, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Eastside.
Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late William Isaac and Emma Smith Berry. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Berry retired as a Captain with the Greenville City Police Department after 38 years of service. He was a member of Holmes Memorial Church, where he served as an Elder on the church board and past trustee on the Board of Holmes Bible College.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Sorrow Berry; two daughters, Pat Berry Knight and husband Jimmy of Taylors and Joan Berry Corey and husband Tony of Greenville; four grandchildren, Brent Knight, Shannon Ireland, and Anne and Lynne Holcombe; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Berry was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Wolfe and Bet Hilley, and brother, Carlton Berry.
He was a man of faith, integrity and honor. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held Monday from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Entombment to follow the service in Woodlawn Memorial Park Serenity Mausoleum.
