Edwin Carlyle Lewis, 88, formerly of Henderson Street and husband of the late Mildred Grant Lewis, passed from this life Monday, May 6, 2013.

Mr. Lewis was born in Pickens County, a son of the late J. Frank and May Fleming Lewis. He was an insurance agent first with Southland Life and later retired from Life of Georgia. He was a faithful and active member of Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church and the Charlie B. Grant Sunday School Class. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Mediterranean and European and Asian and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Lewis was also a member of The American Legion.

Survivors include sons, Ron Lewis (Joy) of Summerton, SC, Mark Lewis and his companion Clay Francis of Durham, NC, and Sid Lewis (Jane) of Pickens and daughter, Ann Hall (Bill) of Seneca, seven grandchildren, Kevin Lewis, (Jill), Brittany Lewis, Annelise Martens (Matthew), Alexandra Lewis and her fiancé, Thomas Ralston, Lauran Henderson (Josh), Sarah Hamby, and Ross Hamby and three great grandchildren, Brodey Lewis, Kase Lewis, and Annie Carlyle Martens. Also surviving is a sister, Irene Breazeale of Pickens and a special friend, Joan Hendricks.

In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Mildred, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his step-mother, Nora Gilstrap Lewis, and brothers, Albert R. Lewis, Capers Lewis and John Frank Lewis and sisters, Helen Stephens, Gertrude Hughes, and Frances Stowe and great granddaughter, Allison K. Lewis.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3PM Wednesday at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with funeral services following at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel with The Reverend Dick Waldrep and The Reverend H. C. Couch officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents of The Inn at Seneca Assisted Living Facility and also Gentiva Hospice.
