Blanche Van Slooten Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Blanche Van Slooten will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007, at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken, with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Southlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Habitat for Humanity, Attention: Richard Church, 1026 Park Avenue, SE, Aiken, SC, 29801.

Mrs. Van Slooten, 85, died Friday, January 26, 2007, at The Hills of Cumberland Village.

Born to the late Henry and Blanche Coppee Wiegers, she was born in Patterson, N.J., and had lived in Toms River, N.J., Deal, N.J., Wayne, N.J. and North Haledon, N.J. before moving to Aiken in 2000. Blanche received a Bachelor's degree in Music from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. She taught violin in Wayne, N.J., and was the choir director at Preakness Christian Reform Church, in Wayne, N.J. for twenty years. Blanche was a loving mother and wife.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David Van Slooten; brother, Blair Wiegers; and sister, Dorothy Schumacher.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Don) Drinkwater of Aiken, and Cheryl (Bruce) VanNess of Greenville, S.C.; sons, Dale (Marion) Van Slooten of Greenville, S.C., Paul (Susan) Van Slooten of Ocean, N.J., and Glen Van Slooten of Jensen Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Christina Van Slooten, Chad Van Slooten, Eric Van Slooten, Adam Van Slooten, Lisa Gottberg, Nathan Drinkwater, Michael Drinkwater, and Rebecca Drinkwater; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Babb, and Brianna Van Slooten.
