Garl Lynn Revis, Jr.

Greenville

Garl Lynn Revis, Jr., 87, of Greenville, widower of Dorothy Cobb Revis, died on Thursday, June 5, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Edna Belcher and Garl Lynn Revis, Sr.

Mr. Revis served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the Army National Guard. He attended Furman University and was a member of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, where he was involved in many church activities. He retired after 38 years from Southern Bell. Garl was the founding leader of Boy Scouts (Troop 216), and member of the Telephone Pioneers, Berea Lions Club, South Carolina Democrat Party, Greenville Urban Re-development Commission, and Senior Action. He was loving, caring, and inspiring, and enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, hunting, and ballroom dancing.

He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Bennett (Thomas) and Julie Edwards (Wesley); two sons, Mitchell Revis (Deborah) and James Revis (Kellie); a brother, Hugh "Pete" Revis; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ulmer, Wes Edwards, Jr., Robert Edwards, and Virginia Arrington; and a great grandchild, Abigail Guyton.

In addition to his parents and wife of 56 years, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred "Sis" Holden, Pauline Roughton, and Lavern Miller; and two brothers, Col. Walter E. Revis and Robert "Bud" Revis.

The visitation will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

I finished high school with Garland have kept up with him through Parker High School reunions. He had a lovely wife and I was sad when she died several years ago.Garl was a fine man and will be missed greatly. My condolences to his family.
