ROBERT FRANCIS ALBERT VIDONE

68 years old, formerly of Chicago, passed peacefully away on Tuesday December 6, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Robert was born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Church, and Greenwich High School, where he formed his first band, Bob Vidone and the Rhythm Rockers in 1957. They played throughout the New England area recording two hit songs. In 1961 they changed their name to Robby and the Troubadours moving to Florida and cutting their 1961 hit "The Lemon Twist". They eventually wound up in Chicago with a longstanding residency at Chicago's Rumpus Room. Robert was said to be one of the greatest frontmen ever. He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He loved to perform and people loved him. He loved his family, friends, and God. He will be truly missed. He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Gidget Vidone Taylor (Kurt Leable) of Wadsworth, Robin Vidone- (Patrick) O'Donnell of Lindenhurst, one granddaughter Gidget (Joshua) Pumala of Wadsworth, former wife Mary Vidone of Round Lake Park, his brother Dr. Romeo (Lena) Vidone of Orange, CT, his nieces and nephews, and his many friends, including Kal Fagan of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Romeo and Albertina Donatelli Vidone of Greenwich, CT. All services will be privately held. I just heard of Bobbys passing.I met Bobby when they were just starting out. Then, it was Bobby, Jackie and Tony. They played the summer fairs and the Friday night canteen. We were all so lucky to be a part of it all. R&R and and the memories. Sometime Bobby would let Charlie( BONES ) Johnson on the stage. He would do a GREAT Lucille and Send me some lovin...Better then Lil Richard. The guys Rocked the House...My deepest sympathy to friends and Family. Thank you Bobby for all the Great Memories. I loved Bobby Or Robby(known by both names to me) as my own brother.
I was a fan in his early years as Bobby And The Rhythm Rockers entertaing us at the Country House every Thursday Nite and at the local Pubs along the Conn and New York border.I than managed Robby as he went on to greater heights,I won't miss him because he'll always been in my heart and thoughts. Bobby was my 'first crush'..my cousin Rick Accurso who lived behind him in Byram was a band member in the beginning and they practiced in our cellar on View St..Rick passed 2 yrs ago..sorry to hear of Bobby's passing but pleased to read about his life accomplishments..sincerely, Toni Panker Surman
