Richard Woodman Obituary

Woodman, Richard C.
Richard C. Woodman was born on August 26, 1952 in Chelsea, MA, and is a graduate of Greenwich High School, class of 1970; and a long-time resident of Stamford. He was the cherished husband of Carolyn Paulus, adored father of teenage daughters Stephanie and Gillian and much-loved son of Betty P. Woodman and the late Harry A. Woodman. He died suddenly of heart complications in Stamford Hospital on December 20th, surround by his wife and children, mother and siblings, Andrea Woodman Oskar, husband Robert, and Lynn Woodman Hawxhurst, husband Edmund, of Stamford, CT and Thomas G. Woodman, wife Carol, of Fairfield, CT. He is also survived by nieces Kate Woodman, husband Kyle, of Portland, OR and Bettina Woodman of Charleston, SC and Jill Paulus Caccia, husband Jim, of South Elgin, IL and Duane Paulus, wife Debbie, of Montgomery, IL.
Rick attended Bates College, graduated from Boston University and received an MBA at the University of Bridgeport; he taught physical education for over 30 years at Mead School in Stamford, CT. He was an active member of First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich and worked with the confirmation and the youth group for 30 years. Rick sang in the choir there and was recently appointed Senior Deacon.
Rick was a man who understood and practiced the philosophy of living in the moment, whether he was helping his delighted Mead students as they learned to make donuts and latkes, attending board meetings at church or tailgating with his many friends in the lot of Giants Stadium.
The Reverend Sally Colegrove, one of Rick's childhood friends, stated that Rick was one of the kindest, most forthright and honest persons she has ever known.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT 06870 on December 29th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either First Congregational Church or to The Mead School, 1095 Riverbank Road, Stamford, CT 06903.

To the family of Rick:
I am so saddened by Rick's passing. I knew the Woodman siblings back in the early 70's thru GHS and SYF, and from what I've been reading, Rick remained that big, sweet guy I remember way back when, all the way into adulthood. How blessed to have warmed so many lives through his teaching and work at 1st Congregational Church. God bless you as you struggle with his death, and thanks to God for sharing Rick's life with us all.

Dear family of Rick-
I remember Rick well from the fun of performing musical events together at First Church and GHS many years ago. Our friend Jon Hunt sent me the sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family. Ellen Boudreau Collord

I was very sad to hear of Rick's passing. He was the oldest cousin and someone we all looked up too. He was gentle, kind and a good listener. His family leadership will be missed. He is with the Lord now and singing with the angels.
