Dick was my mentor for over 21 years. I couldn't have moved forward as a Division 1 Athletic Director without his guidance and training. Beth & I enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Dick & Carol and family. Miss those mushroom hunting days together for sure! A great personal friend will be missed. Our deepest sympathies to Carol, David, Ann, and families.

Coach Shrider was a key influence on me while I was a student at Miami. Even in my 70's, I still vividly recall the fond memories of a great coach and person.

Dick and Carol Shrider were very special friends of ours. Lots of great memories of being neighbors, of the M.U. Athletic Dept, of mushroom hunting trips each spring in Michigan and of the Oxford Treasure Hunt. He was a kind and thoughtful gentleman with a ready smile and funny stories. He will be sorely missed and we want to send our sincere condolences to Carol, David, Ann and family. Happy Hunting Richard, you were one of a kind.

When I think of how my alma mater, Miami University, has continued it's' successful pursuit towards excellence, I think of Dick
Shrider. He was always, and all ways, a voice for integrity in athletics, and life. I shall miss him greatly and remember our days in Rotary and how tough a competitor he was, especially in our monthly poker game!

I had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Shrider ("Uncle Dick") in the mid-late 1990s while attending Miami and dating the daughter of one of his nieces. He was engaging, a great storyteller, generous, and, as I increasingly learned of his earlier accomplishments, humble. Looking back he was my surrogate grandfather during college and his loss is felt deeply.

I was the student member of the athletic council during my junior year in the mid-1970's. I appreciated all of the lessons that I learned from Mr. Shrider during my year on the board. He also was very helpful with the start of my teaching and coaching career and with the pursuit of my Masters degree in Athletic Administration. I also appreciated the time, answers and questions that he would offer when I needed direction during my career. He truly made Miami special for me and I will always be grateful. Love and Honor.
