Adam Hinojos

1921 - 2010

Adam Hinojos of Lemoore died peacefully at St. Agnes hospital on October 30 at 7:30 a.m. at the age of 89 after a short illness. Adam was born in Kansas City, MO to Joseph and Altagracia Hinojos on June 6, 1921. His mother passed away when he was 6 months old and he and his father moved to Lemoore, California. He graduated from Lemoore High in 1941 and joined the war effort by enlisting in the US Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Horham, England during World War II. He met his future wife Annie Robertson on a double date while up in Scotland. They were married on September 18, 1945. After the war Adam returned to Lemoore in 1946. His wife joined him the same year.

Adam is survived by his two children, Jo Ann Hinojos of Lemoore and John A. Hinojos of San Diego. He is also survived by a half-sister, Josephine Stanton, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Adam and Annie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September 2005. His wife Annie, passed away in March 2006. In addition to his daughter Jo Ann and his son John, Adam also added "adopted" many additional children that he included in his extended family: Robert Cox of San Diego, Laney Baltazar of Lemoore, Michael Baltazar (his "grandson") of Fresno, Rickie and Duane Souza, and Susette and Dave Ecker of Lemoore, and Rick Chapman and Jan Mooney of Reno, Sandi Everhart, Jim Hyberg and Barbara Spencer of Fresno and Kathy Sackett of Hanford. Adam hosted an American Field Service (AFS) exchange student in 1969, Peter Rado, from Italy.

Adam was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and an avid supporter of the Lemoore High Tigers and CSU Fresno State Bulldogs football teams. He was also very active and volunteered at the Lemoore Senior Center. Adam was involved with the 95th Bomb Group (a World War II reunion association) which was the squadron he served during World War II. He served as president of the organization and twice placed the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers representing the organization which he recently placed with Michael Baltazar, his "grandson" in August 2010.

During his lifetime he enjoyed traveling, golfing, and was a longtime fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49'ers, and participated on bowling teams for Boston Ranch Company and Lincoln Market. He also enjoyed growing roses and visiting his wife's relatives in Scotland.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 20 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore. Arrangements are by Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel.
