Barbara Lamb Obituary

Born April 23, 1916 -
Passed October 19, 2010
Barbara Ester (Washburn) Lamb passed away in Cayucos on October 19, 2010 at the age of 94. Barbara was born in Hanford, CA on April 23, 1916 to Earl and Mary Viola (Hames) Washburn. She was born in the family home on Florinda Street and attended local schools. She graduated from Hanford High School in 1934 and attended COS for two years.

She moved to Visalia in the mid forties and started a 45 year career as a legal secretary, mostly with Mr. Mitchell. She married Norman Lamb in 1954 in Carmel, CA. Norman was a petroleum supplier in Visalia. Upon her husband's death in 1992, Barbara would split time between Visalia and Cayucos. She cherished her Cayucos home and spending time with her nieces and nephews over the recent years. Holiday's were very special with family. Visiting the Sequoia's, San Francisco for a play and shopping, Tony Bennett's music and a good crab sandwich were some of her favorites.

Barbara left us suddenly on October 19. She was still driving to the coast, wearing high heels, very independent, and would enjoy champagne in a very cold glass. She lived her life right to the end with a lot of class.

Barbara is the last of her immediate family to pass. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Viola (Hames) Washburn; brother Earl Jr. and wife Billie; brother Byron (Moe); sister Marjorie (Washburn) Chambers and husband Charles.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Private burial was October 27, 2010 at the Kings River Cemetery in Hanford where her Mother and Father, brother Earl and wife Billie are also buried. The cemetery is only a short distance from her Mother's birth place on the Kings River.

We will miss you Barbara. The memories will console us and your spirit will live with us for all time. We were fortunate to have been part of your life and will always smile when we remember our tall, red headed and fun loving Aunt Barbara. You were truly "one of a kind."

There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Depot Restaurant, 207 E. Oak Ave, Visalia, California, on Saturday, November 13th, from 12 - 3 p.m.

Condolences may be offered at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty St, Hanford, CA 93230 (559)584-5591.

Barbara was sharp as a tac and loved to live life. She had a great sense of humor and always added a certain level of light and comfort to the room.

Jane, Lynne, Jeanne and Jill: I'm so so sorry. Aunt Barbara was SO special and was very much loved and admired. My heart goes out to you all at this terribly sad time....but what a time Barbara had in her life...one so full of fun.
I love you girls.

My beautiful Aunt Barbara is sorely missed. She was the classiest lady I've ever known and loved.
