Grant Clark Obituary

Grant Clark, 76, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by music and his family, on November 18th, 2010. He had suffered from a prolonged illness, which limited his ability to enjoy his family, travel and be active in the community in recent years.

Born to Wallace and Gertrude Clark in 1934, Grant was raised in Hanford, graduating from Hanford Union High School in 1952. He was a prominent Kings County dairyman and member of a pioneer California family who settled in the Guernsey area in 1872 starting the Clark Dairy. The dairy, later known as Clarkhome Registered Holsteins, remained in the family until the sale of the registered herd in 2000. Clarkhome was one of the oldest, continuously family-operated registered Holstein dairy herds in California and the oldest family run dairy farm in Kings County.

Education was important to Grant, who attended the College of the Sequoias and the University of California, Berkeley before receiving his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of California, Davis. Grant returned to Hanford to work on the family dairy and married his wife, Rosemary.

Grant was involved locally in the Hanford Rotary Club, Farm Bureau and his church, serving as an elder in past years and singing in the church choir. He enjoyed music - playing the piano and organ in his leisure time. He was an avid lover of cars and all animals, particularly cats.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years and their four children: Kevin of Hanford, Karen and her husband Don Thornburg of Danville, Carol of San Francisco and Colin of Charlotte, North Carolina and two grandchildren who fondly called him "Papa Moo,"

The family wishes to express their thanks to the nurses of the Adventist Hospice Care and Grant's caregivers, Richard Spain, Toni McCracken and Rosalba Quesada who lovingly cared for him and helped to make his life comfortable in his final years. Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in honor of Grant Clark to: the Adventist Home Care and Hospice Service, 460 Kings City Drive, #101, Hanford, CA 93230, the Kings Art Center Foundation, P.O. Box 376, Hanford, CA 93232 or any charity of choice.

Condolences may be made at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty St., Hanford, Ca 93230 (559)584-5591.
