BARNES, Delbert, O.
Delbert O. Barnes, 94, of Bristol, beloved husband of Ruth (Hinkel) Barnes, died on Wednesday, (November 16, 2011) at Countryside Manor. Del was born on March 10, 1917 and was a son of the late Benjamin and Margaret (Bowmaster) Barnes. A longtime Bristol resident, he served in the United States Air Force in the Pacific during World War II. He worked for C&S Motor Co., Forestville, and General Electric before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club and the Wolcott Landowner's Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, trapshooting, gardening, playing pool and cards, and he was a ten-pin bowler and bowled in the Bristol Ten Pin Senior League. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Delbert leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Burton and Cedric Barnes, and five sisters, Vera Brown, Alice Kimball, Rita Bartlett, Florence Brimigion, and Gladys Powers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (November 19, 2011) at 11 a.m. at the Barnes Memorial Chapel, 49 Pound St., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in West Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, today (Friday) between 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 295 Arch St., New Britain, CT 06051, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
