SCHLESINGER, Irving H.
Irving H. Schlesinger, 94, died on January 14, 2013 with his family at his side. He was a retired vice president for the Southern New England Telephone company. He was educated at The Loomis School, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University in 1940 where he was a member of the varsity soccer team and the Yale Glee Club. He served in the European theatre as a Captain in the Medical Administrative Corps in World War II. Irving served as a vestryman, warden and choir member at Trinity Church on the Green and was a director of the Quinnipiac Council of Boy Scouts, Blue Shield, and the Clifford Beers Clinic. A former president of the Hartford Jaycees, he served for the United Way, the New Haven Chamber of Commerce, the Connecticut Economic Development Commission, and chaired the North Haven Zoning Board of Appeals. An avid golfer, he was past secretary of the Connecticut State Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of the New Haven Country Club, the High Lane Club and the Quinnipiac Club. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Sis,) children John and wife Laurie, Peter and wife Valerie, and Ruth Bryant and husband Stearns; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday January 17 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Clelian Adult Day Care, 261 Benham St., Hamden, CT 06514, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001 or to the New England Retina Research and Education Foundation, 2200 Whitney Avenue, Suite 300, Hamden, CT 06518. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Ave., New Haven.

Irv was a dear sweet man and a wonderful friend. I loved hearing him sing in the Spirit Singers at Trinity and loved sitting with him and Sis at church. I will miss him as I know everyone will.
