Patricia Sidas Obituary

Patricia Gayer (Degnan) Sidas, 72, of Wilton, CT passed away on September 5, 2016 at Norwalk Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter Sidas (Vladas Sidzikauskas), and her parents, Howard and Helen (Gayer) Degnan. Patricia was born on October 26, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Clinton, Connecticut. She received a Bachelor's degree from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut and a MBA from Baruch College in New York, New York. She married her true love, Walter on June 8, 1968 at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Together, they raised two children. Throughout her life, Mrs. Sidas lived to serve others. As an active member in PTA, she served as PTA President not only in New York but also when the family relocated to Connecticut. She served the people of Connecticut as a Commissioner to the Education Commission of the States. Patricia loved classical music and her love of singing drew her to become a member of the Ridgefield Chorale, where she also served as President for the organization. Patricia was a devoted Catholic and active parishioner at Annunciation Lithuanian Parish in Brooklyn, New York as well as a singer in the church choir. She was a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Patricia also embraced the Lithuanian Community in New York and served to help organizations such as the Lithuanian School or Lithuanian Scouts. Thinking of others, Patricia was always willing to cook, bake, make homemade jam and bring flowers or vegetables from her beloved garden in the community garden in Wilton. Mrs. Sidas is survived by her son, Walter A. Sidas, her daughter Zita J. Sidas, her sister Helen-Marie (Degnan) Martel and her husband Joe Martel and her cousin Faith (Gayer) Fisher and her husband Bob Fisher. Patricia is also survived by nephew Tom McCarthy, niece Diane (McCarthy) Golden, niece Patricia (McCarthy) Chen, nephew Joe Martel Jr., niece Sandy (Martel) van Sciver with their spouses and children. A closed casket visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home - 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, CT. A Latin Requiem Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church - 669 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Interment will be at the direction of the family. My deepest condolences on your loss. As a member of the CT PTA Board and a former state president i was privileged to have Pat as mentor. I can quite frankly say that my success as a PTA leader was due , in no small part, to her sage advice
( and the occasional kick in the butt when needed). She was a force of nature and she will be missed.

Dear Zita and Walter and Family; Your dear mother, Pat, was my long-time friend and singing enthusiast. We last sang together with Music on the Hill the summer of 2015. I encouraged her attendance this summer, but she declined due to her health. She was so very intelligent and I remember her being President of the Wilton PTA while my children were growing up there. Walter, perhaps you remember my son, Kevin O'Neill, who also attended RIT in mechanical engineering? Her knowledge and love of religion were amazing and it was my blessing to know her. She is now happy with her God and her dear Walter. With sympathy and prayers, Kay (O'Neill) Sementini
