What i got from his education and while i was in struggles to finish school; he always told me i was smart and that my writing and bright mind will get me far. Life is so short. Although it saddens me to hear of Mr. Garland's passing, I am also heartened by the life he led. I remember many of the discussions we all had as a staff at NSAS about how to make things work best for our students. Mr. Garland's life was rich in meaning - with/for his students, his work, his colleagues and his family.

Mr.Garland always had something insightful and comical to say. His mind and perception was worn on his sleeve and he damn sure wasn't afraid to say it. I loved the quotes he put up on his board for the students to decipher and I'll miss them always. To a great teacher and a great role model, mad love Mr.G... xo

Dear Gayle and Devon,
We are all still in shock from the sudden loss of a dear husband and a wonderful Great Uncle. At least Devon went to the ocean before the sudden passing. I am sure that Uncle Garland was thrilled and so happy that he was responsible for you finally getting to swim in the ocean. You both have beautiful memories and we must all cherish and be grateful that we were blessed to have known him.
