Gerald Behrendt Obituary

BEHRENDT, Gerald W. "Spike" Gerald W. "Spike" Behrendt, 65, of Bristol, beloved husband of Laurel (Schultz) Behrendt, died on Saturday (March 21, 2009) at Bristol Hospital. Gerald was born on July 28, 1943 in Bristol and was a son of the late Adolph and Emma (Radke) Behrendt. A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School and Bristol Eastern High School. He served in the U.S. Army reserve and retired from Superior Electric where he worked over 30 years and for 25 years was a co-owner with his cousins of Chippanee Orchard. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bristol, where he served as an usher for many years. In addition to his wife, Spike is survived by a son and daughter in law, Jeffrey and Heather Behrendt of Harwinton; two grandchildren; Andrew and Alyssa Behrendt; an aunt; Esther Behrendt, and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 25 at 12 Noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Tuesday between 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 154 Meadow St., Bristol, CT 06010, or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
