Charles E. PLATT

PLATT, Charles E. CharlesElmorePlatt, 81 of Glastonbury, formerly of Vernon for fifty-seven years, loving husband for over fifty-nine years of Natalie (Winsor) Platt, died Friday, (May 20, 2011) in Glastonbury after an extended illness. Charles was born in Flushing, NY on September 24, 1929 to the late Worthington Elmore Platt and Lois (Caswell) Platt. He graduated from Plainfield High School and received his bachelor's degree in engineering from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. He served in the Navy during the Korean War era then continued his studies at the Hartford campus of RPI. He received his master's degree, and had a career of over thirty-five years at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company in East Hartford before his retirement. Charles was a member of the Center Congregational Church in Manchester, a member of the church choir, and enjoyed traveling to Florida with Natalie. His passion was gardening, and he donated to the town of Vernon his garden on Lake Street where he has grown over 100 varieties of rhododendrons. With his wife, he is survived by a daughter and two sons, Susan Bolduc and her husband Brian of Coventry, David Platt of Vernon, and Craig Platt and his wife Brenda of Keane, NH; and two grandchildren, Megan Fuller and her husband Jesse,andEric Bolduc. Funeral services will be held Tuesday,May 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in the Valley Falls Cemetery in Vernon. Visiting hours are Monday, May 23, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
