GAVITT, Richard E.
Richard E. Gavitt, 85, of Bristol, passed away Monday (April 8, 2013) in Bristol. Born in New Britain, he graduated from New Britain High School, received his Bachelor's from Yale and then got his Master's from UCONN. Richard was a Bristol resident for more than 30 years and was the Dean of Continuing Education at Tunxis Community College in Farmington until his retirement. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church in Bristol, a member of the Rhode Island Genealogical Society, RI Historical Society, Soule Kindred Society and the Mayflower Society. His many interests included music, plays and history. Richard was a WWII US Navy Veteran. Richard is survived by half sister, Virginia Greer of Slocum, RI; and his friend, Theresa Caporale of Bristol, CT. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Agnes (Carlson) Gavitt; and also a half brother, Albert Gavitt.
A memorial service will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church, 851 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT 06010. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
