Lorraine Mattis Obituary

MATTIS, Lorraine W. Lorraine W. Mattis, 84, of the Rockville section of Vernon, died Monday, (November 17, 2008) at St Francis Hospital, Hartford. She was the beloved wife of Edward J. Mattis who predeceased her in 1990. Born in Hartford, Aug. 12, 1924, the daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Lewondowski) Wroblewski. She lived all her life in Rockville. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church and the Senior Center of Vernon. During World War II she was employed at the Vernon Ration Board dispensing gasoline coupons as well tire and automobile certificates. She was a bookkeeper at Cramer's Fashion Center, and also worked at the H.E Ludke Insurance Agency. When they sold the agency to Thomas J. Wolff in January 1958 she continued in the new agency until she retired in Oct 2002. She leaves two sisters-in-law, Nellie Mattis Pytko of Tampa, FL Irene Mattis Height of East Hartford; nephews: Gary Mattis of Rockville, Norman Mattis and his wife Marianne of Stafford Springs along with their daughters, Lauren and Kylee Mattis; a niece Joan Height of East Hartford; nephews and their spouses, Alan and Nancy Height of Higganum, Kenneth and Debbie Height of South Glastonbury, Roger and Susan Height of Bloomfield, and David and Sandra Plummer of Bolton. Relatives and friends may gather Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville on Wednesday, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard's Church, 25 St. Bernard's Terrace, Rockville, CT 06066 or to the Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Rd., Suite 5, Kensington, CT

Lorraine was a very good friend during High School days, and many years afterward. She will surely be missed.

Very sorry to hear of your loss! I did not know Lorraine well, but she was always very kind and thoughtful. Although she is in a better place now, she will be dearly missed I am sure.
