William SCHNIPPER

SCHNIPPER, William William Schnipper, 95, passed away Wednesday (June 30, 2010) at home in West Hartford, CT. A first generation American, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he lived through the Great Depression, many wars, enormous technological change and scores of social progress. He is survived by his wife, Bess (Cooper) Schnipper, his sister Ceil Yellin, his son Michael Schnipper and his wife Ida of Unionville, and two grandchildren, Sara and Matthew Schnipper, all of whom are blessed to have seen Will live an incredibly full life. An electrician by trade, Will worked many years in and out of his home of 60 years in Valley Stream, Long Island, NY. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local # 3, in 2008 receiving recognition for 75 years of membership. Throughout his life he stoked a strong passion for travel, driven by an inherent curiosity about the world around him. With Bess, he visited such distant and disparate locations as Israel, Mexico, Alaska, Ireland, and Morocco. Though a trim and fit man (with an incredibly strong grip), he was well known for his healthy appetite and extreme sweet tooth—he enjoyed chocolate ice cream with sprinkles until his passing. He was a well dressed, dignified, quiet and considerate man who loved baseball, pretty women, regal cars with butterscotch interiors, friendly strangers and the eternal struggle to save a buck. He was both gentle and extremely hard working, driven, often silently but never without diligence, by the warm reflection of his family's love. Though sick, Will was eased into death through the grace of hospice. The Schnipper family would like to thank the staff of Summerwood and Dr. Laverne Wright and the Hebrew Home Hospice staff for their outstanding care and compassion. Burial services were held Friday in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. A Memorial service for family and friends will be held Monday (July 5, 2010) 11 a.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. Rabbi Howard Herman will officiate. His family will receive friends from 10:30-11 a.m. prior to the service and after the service at their home in Unionville.
