SUDARSKY, Joseph S.
Joseph S. Sudarsky of Bloomfield and West Harwich, MA died last evening at the age of 94. Born August 30, 1918, he was a graduate of Weaver High School and Dartmouth College, Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year. He was graduated from Yale Law School in 1942, after which he enlisted and served in the infantry in World War II, participating in the Normandy invasion landing at Omaha Beach. Wounded at St Lo, he was awarded the purple heart and sent to London during the bombardment to recuperate. After the armistice he put his skills to work in the Judge Advocate General's office under Leon Jaworski, prosecuting war crimes in Germany. On leave in November 1945, Joe returned home to marry his sweetheart, Edith Gaberman. After completing his work in Germany, he joined his father and cousin in the family law firm of Sudarsky & Sudarsky. He served two terms on the West Hartford town council and held many positions in public service. In recent years, Gay and Joe Sudarsky organized a golf tournament to benefit the cancer program at the UConn medical center. They were married 67 years. Upon his retirement last year, Joe was the longest-standing member of the Hartford Bar Association. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves behind three siblings: Miriam Rudy, Ruth Wortman, and David Sudarsky; three children: Lewis Sudarsky of Brookline MA, Betty Sudarsky Bradley of Newton MA, and Deborah Sudarsky Wherry of Brooklyn NY; and five grandchildren whom he treasured: Benjamin Sudarsky, Samuel Bradley, Dean Sudarsky, Lucas Wherry, and Olivia Wherry.

The best part about obituaries is learning what you never knew about a man. What I knew about Mr. Sudarsky was that he was Betty's Dad and the person who gave me the professional advice that launched my career. I had no idea of his war heroism!
He was such a warm, generous, funny and engaging person. The world is a lesser place without him. Our entire family sends our love to his family. He doesn't need our prayers because we know he is in the right place!
Much love, Maureen, John, Jennifer, Kate and Alex
