Carl Tyrone Mitchell was born on August 17, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday March 6, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved son of the late Jaunita Sims Champion and Johnny Hatten.Tyrone excelled in his studies. He attended Weaver High School where he played varsity football and varsity baseball, and graduated in 1991 as the class valedictorian. He also attended Yale University where in 1995 he earned a B.A. in English. Tyrone was most recently employed by Bank of America as H.E. Home Service Specialist ll. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Those who will cherish Tyrone's memories are his children, Morgan Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell, Carl T. Mitchell Jr. and Jeffery Mitchell-Chin; his sister, Marlena L. Sims-McBride; his brother, Dr. Walter L. Champion lll; his step-sister, Nicole Champion-Riley; his step-father Walter L. Champion Jr.; uncles Levert B. Bumpers; Dr. Harvey Lee (Shari) Bumpers, Charles E. Bumpers and Scott (Evelyn) Houston. Also a sister-in-law Peju Champion and his former wife, Dawn Mitchell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 am with a 9:00 am calling hour at Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Service 94 Granby Street, Bloomfield, Ct Burial will be at St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Ct www.henrylfuquafuneralservices.

My thougts and prayers have been with Tyrone's family since I heard the terrible news of his passing. I have known Tyrone most of my life. We attended school together for many years and participated in the Upward Bound College Prep program together. He was always a repsectable man with a gorgeous smile and sharp intellectual skills. I ran into him some months back at a gas station after not seeing him for many years. He greeted me warmly and we talked for a while about our children. My prayer is that his family be comforted by the memories that were shared and the life he lived. God bless you in your time of mourning.

I met Tyrone through his Frat brother Rasheed when I was a student at Southern Connecticut State University. I was so sad when I heard of his passing. I will never forget his infectious smile and pleasant demeanor. My sympathy to his family, rest in peace.

This past week has been really hard considering that I've known Tyrone for over 25 years. We attended the same classes at both Fox and Weaver. My heart is aching for his children and his family. I am so sadden on the passing of a dear friend I briefly got to know for a short period of time but, felt like we knew each other forever. The love he had for others was so obviously contagious and welcoming. We had just exchange phone numbers and, I was excited to get to know who this very bright brother was. I only let very positive, real, people in my circle of friends. I even told him on may occasions that he had reminded me so much of my older brother. Until I got the notice on that heart wrenching friday of March 7th of his passing, I was devistated on belief. All I could think of is all the good times we all were having on the bus riding to work laughing, joking, and out of all our laughs, (U can hear his distinctive deep, kind, laugh out of the air clearly). him talking highly of his kids. He even would sometimes sit alone on the bus just reading his book so contently. Another good brother gone too soon. Carl love for others and his golden heart will be missed. Carl, I know ur looking down on us from the golden streets of heaven. Man we miss U dude! Until next time, we'll see each other again, peace and love big dawg. I would like to send my condolences out to the entire Mitchell family and pray that GOD holds you and comfort you during this trying time. May GOD bless you and your entire family.
