I met Mr. Korzenik at Westfield State University a couple of years ago. I was sorry for his suffering, and what he endured. He signed my Bible. Laura

To the Korzenik Family,
Unfortunately I just heard of your loss of your father. I am very sorry for your loss. I have not spoken to him since last summer when we met in West Hartford for coffee. I visited him when he was in the hospital in Farmington when he had surgery. I knew your father for 15 years when he came to speak at a school where I was student teaching. Since that day he came to my school where I teach now E.O. Smith High school in Storrs . He always came every year and in between we would meet up to catch up from time to time. I have a 3 hour long interview with him from when I 1st met him when he worked in Hartford for Chase.
Your father was a great man and was a true inspiration to me as a person adn educator also with all the students he met. I really had a great relationship with Joe and just learning of this a few minutes ago it has not sunk in. I loved you father he was such a good man and I am very sad over this. I am sorry to not be at any services for if I had known I would have been there. I was just getting ready to call him to ask him to come this May....I am very sorry may he rest in peace.I did speak to his daughter when he was in the hospital and if there is any way you could call me I would like to speak with you. 860-922-1282

To all of those closest and dearest to Joe,
My profound sympathies for your loss. I knew Joe best when, as a child, he was a frequent visitor to our house who brought good cheer, insight, warmth, and sensitivity. His remarkable story of survival and overcoming hardship and cruelty to succeed in a new life stands as a beacon of hope and the power of life force. I remember Joe as both passionate and compassionate, a man of candor and integrity, and I know he will be missed.

I appreciated our many hours of discussion, argument, storytelling, and loving compassion at Gus and Paul's Jewish deli in Springfield. Joe succeeded, through strong determination, in making a good life, overcoming huge obstacles. I'm proud to have known him, and am sorry that he's gone. Somewhere he's telling a very long, involved story to a rapt audience.

An open letter to THE REAL JOE KORZENIK
Dear Joe,
You were the last of those from Beth Sholom who were responsible for my early Jewish experiences. When I look back on the experiences of my early years, I see the effect you had on my life and what it means to live by principal. Perhaps, the biggest lesson for anyone who came in contact with you was that hating one who hates you only strengthens the cause of the hater. Your neverendeing concern for my illness and my family showed how selfless you were and always kept us close. Our get togethers with Bruce at Rein's to nosh are some of my fondest memories of you. I know we will break bread again someday.
Love and deepest respect

To the Korzenik family,
Joe always had a good story - and a bad joke - to tell. My favorite story of his was how he came to work, then returned home right away. Seems he forgot to tell Ruth that he loved her before he left for work.
Rest in peace, Joe.

Mr. Korzenik was a friend to Avon HS for over 20 years. Many of my students remember him for his intellect, humor, spirit, and life in Europe from 1939-1945. He spoke often about his mother and father, Ruthie, Michele and Larry, and his grandchildren. A great man who I respected very much.

I had the honor of interviewing Joe Korzenick when he was my guest on the WTIC-AM radio program "Face Connecticut" in 1996. He changed the way I look at the world and I am truly saddened by his passing. May his family take comfort in the knowledge that he touched my life and the lives of so many others in a positive way.

My sincerest sympathies to Joe's family and to all who remember him with love as I will. Joe made the survivor community proud with his dedication to remembering the atrocities that he and so many others suffered. He was a devout Jew, a student of life, a devoted friend, and a mensch in countless ways. May his memory be of blessing.

Dear Ruth and family,
What a tragedy, not only for you but also for all of those whose lives he touched and all he had not yet reached with his vitally important messages and inspiration. His good heart and his sense of humor, after all he had endured, contributed to his obligation to Tikkun Olam that few will attain or exceed.
The joy of seeing Joe and Ruth at family gatherings where the light of Joe's soul shone through his eyes, of working with Ruth, will remain in my heart as long as I live.
May Joe's memory be for a blessing and may his wonderful deeds and your precious memories sustain you.
