DAUKAS, Lou Lou Daukas, 84, of Glastonbury died peacefully at home on Thursday (Dec. 22, 2005). He was born on July 4, 1921 in Nashua, NH. Lou attended Cornell University where he was the first president of the Class of '44 and a member of the Seal and Serpent fraternity. Lou was an outstanding athlete who won letters in both football and baseball. He was co-captain of the football team and played center. In baseball, he played first base and was one of the team's leading hitters. In 1946, he was an Associated Press All-American honorable mention center, and in 1947 he was selected to play for the Eastern College All-Stars vs. NY Giants. Lou played professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1994, he was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Nashua, NH High School Hall of Fame for basketball, baseball and football. Lou served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army in WWII. He earned his law degree from St. Johns University (NY). Lou was Vice President and Legal Counsel at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 30 years. Lou was married to Janet Buhsen for 55 years. Their children include Gail, Paula, Jimmy, and Glenn, and six grandchildren: Gardi, Miles, Lila, Sophie, Louis, and Rigel. He is also survived by three brothers, John, Paul and Charlie, and two sisters, Anne and Alice. A memorial service will be celebrated Thurs., Dec. 29 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the "Lou Daukas Scholarship Fund", which will support a student athlete with financial needs from Glastonbury High School. My heartfelt condolences to the Daukas family. Lou will always be remembered as a great person we had the pleasure to have worked with at Pratt and just a wonderful human being to know.
