Willie Burts Obituary

BURTS, Willie Griffin Willie Griffin Burts, 88, of Hartford, died Sunday (April 19, 2009). He was born on March 15, 1921, in Marion County, GA. The son of LC West and Addie (Smith) Burts, Willie was predeceased by his wife, Carrie of 63 years of marriage; and three sons, Willie Griffin, Jr., Wilbert Lee and Johnnie Eddie Burts; and a sister Edna Lois (Burts) Maye. He retired after working for the City of Hartford Board of Education as a custodian for over 20 years. Willie is survived by three sons, two daughters, three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law; Calvin Boyd and wife Francis Burts of Louisiana; Jimmie Lee Burts of Hartford; Bradford and Wife Ann (Willis) Burts of Hartford; Dorothy (Burts) Knowlin and husband Jimmy of Newington; Betty (Burts) Jackson and husband John, Sr., of West Hartford and Sharon Burts, daughter in-law-wife of Johnnie of Hartford, 19 grandchildren, Maxine Burts, April Burts (McBride), Paulette Maxwell, Leslie (Kempson) Grant, Jamie Brown, Tina (Kempson) Asberry, John Jackson, Jr., Wesley Burts, Adrienne Burts, Wesley Jackson, Brandon Jackson, Temeka Burts, Calvin Burts, Jr., Domonique Burts, Nicole Jackson, Johnell Burts, Austin Knowlin, Kewan Willis, and Bradford Burts, Jr.; 45 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A special nephew Gene Maye of New York City. Willie also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. A homegoing celebration service will be held on Friday, April 24, at Bethesda Apostolic Church, 249 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT 06050. Calling hours are scheduled for 10 a.m. with Homegoing Celebration service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
