STRANGE, Marian (Hodder) Tuesday, (September 22, 2009) at 11:25 a.m., Marian took her last breath in her ten month struggle against brain cancer. She died at McLean Hospice, Simsbury. Born November 14, 1951 in Cleveland, OH to Robert Hodder and Ruth ( Rulon ) Hodder. As a 1973 graduate in journalism from Ohio University, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work on Capitol Hill. There she met Jim and they became married June 30, 1976. Their son Jeff was born in November 1978 and daughter Megan in August 1980. Jeff and his wife Doughty have a daughter Lorien born in April 2007. There is so much more to Marian's life that we would like to share with family and friends: Monday, September 28, 4 p.m., Trinity Episcopal Church, River Rd., Collinsville. Contributions in the form of written personal memoirs of Marian would be greatly appreciated.

Although we weren't very close, Marian was my friend at Forest Park Jr. High (we rode the school bus together), and I graduated with her from Euclid and OU. I just read of her passing in _Ohio University Today_ and I wish to extend my deepest sympathy at a time of such great loss. I always remember Marian as being LOTS of fun and smiling all the time. Until I looked at the blog-site photos, I'd actually forgotten that she was drop-dead gorgeous! I was surprised to see that she was living so close to me all these years. May God bless you all and I will keep you in my prayers.

I was so saddened to learn of your mother's illness and subsequent death. I had just made contact with your Aunt Beth not long ago and she told me the news. I will always remember your mother as she is in the Santa Claus picture - a very pretty and lovely little girl. This was the time when I knew Bobby, Beth, and her best.

Sincerely,
her cousin

My deepest sympathy to Marian's family. I lost my father at age 68 from a brain tumor. I knew Marian while working at The Hartford and enjoyed sharing "grandchild stories" with her. Lynne Schoen

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. I too had the pleasure of working closely with Marian for a number of years at Hartford Life. I even had the pleasure to offer her a full-time permanent job, a position well deserved.

I had fond memories of our times together. I grew up in the DC area, we both had stories to share of our experiences in DC.

She's at peace now. God bless.

I, too, had the good fortune of working with Marian at The Hartford many years ago. I would have to agree with Mark that Marian definitely had her priorities in the right place: family comes first. She was an utter delight to not only work with but to hang out with over a glass of wine and great snacks. She had one of the best senses of humor and I loved talking politics with her since we were both rabid liberals. The world will NOT be a better place without her in fact, it's up to all of us to carry on her bright light by keeping her in our hearts and memories. Deep sympathies to Jim, Jeff and Megan.

Marion will be truly missed. I worked with Marion for many years, and as a young leader in the department, I think I learned more from Marion than I ever gave. Marion had such a great approach to work life balance –well before “work life balance” was a corporate buzz word. She always preached about what was important; and she was right, it was family. Never did a day go by without her asking about mine or her telling me with a gleam in her eye about hers –she loved you all very much. Marion was one of the few people I worked with that had such a strong sense of balance, and she taught me that to be successful as a person, you could never lose sight of what was important. I think of her often when the ‘rat race’ gets too fast, and can always find comfort thinking the impressions she left with me.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. I worked with Marian off and on for many years at The Hartford and appreciated her quick smile and ability to see the best in people. I will truly miss her.
