ANDRESEN, Joan T. Joan Teresa (Haley) Andresen, 84, died Monday, (February 1, 2010) at Bolster Heights Residential Care. She was born in Lewiston, ME on Jan. 23, 1926, daughter of Walter Edward and Elizabeth (Cronin) Haley. She was an honors graduate of Lewiston High School in 1943. She attended Notre Dame College of Staten Island, NY, now St. John's University. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Manhattan College of Riverdale and Fordham University, Sisters' Divisions. She taught for 23 years as a member of the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame de Montreal, P.Q., Canada in schools in New York and Connecticut. During that time she received her Master's Degree from Columbia University, School of Library Service and pursued further graduate studies at Fordham University, Catholic University of Ponce, Puerto Rico and Middlebury College School of Spanish. Since 1967 she served eight years as Children's Librarian, then 14 years as Assistant Reference Librarian and Circulation Supervisor at the Noah Webster Public Library in West Hartford, CT. She retired in 1988 but remained in Hartford for another 14 years; then after 35 years in Hartford she returned to Maine in 2002. She was a former member of the American Library Association, the Connecticut Library Association, the Pilot Club of Hartford and Call to Action for Catholic Renewal. She was a lifelong animal lover. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Elizabeth Gagnier, of Lewiston; a cousin, Leo Papineau and his wife Rita of Minneapolis, MN; a niece, Joan Tucker and her husband Thomas of Fall River, MA and Summerville, SC; three nephews, Gregory Gagnier and his wife Diane, Stephen Gagnier and Thomas Gagnier all of Lewiston, ME. Funeral Mass Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Interment in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
