Sheila Fagan

Sheila Fagan, 50, of Wethersfield, CT peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 27, 2017 following a brave battle with cancer. Her family and partner Pat Mattoon were by her side. Sheila was born on August 28, 1966 in New Britain, CT to Kathleen (Walsh) Fagan and the late David Fagan. She graduated from New Britain High School and the University of Hartford where she was granted a full scholarship for her academics and outstanding softball and pitching skills. Sheila was inducted in the University of Hartford Athletic Hall of Fame following her successful collegiate athletic career. Many of Sheila's fondest memories were from playing softball, traveling, kayaking, and trips to the beach. Sheila worked at the Hartford Civic Center for over 20 years, starting part-time and ending up the General Manager. During that time Sheila built many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Sheila also worked at the New Britain Rock Cats stadium for several years. Her approach of hard work, dedication, and honesty earned her the respect of all who worked with her. In 1999, Sheila became involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure when her partner Pat was fighting her own battle with cancer. She organized a group of family and friends known as "Toonsters Troopers", a team of over 50 people, each one ready to stand by Sheila and Pat's side for 17 years. In September, Sheila, Pat, and two dear friends went to Ireland to celebrate her 50th birthday. It was the trip of a lifetime full of beautiful sites, laughter, and memories. As always, Sheila lived for family, friends, and vacations to Ogunquit, ME, Pompano Beach, FL, and her many kayaking excursions. Sheila leaves her mother Kathleen Fagan; brother Patrick Fagan, his wife Anne, and their children Ben and Andrew; sister Susan (Fagan) Taricani and her children Logan and Madison; as well as Pat's family including her other mom Mrs. Edith Mattoon, brothers Kenny, Doug, his wife Prudy, and their children Michael and Laura, her husband Michael Mitchell, and their children Julian and Isabelle. She is predeceased be her father David Fagan. Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at Hartford Hospital for their compassion and professionalism. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11AM directly at St. Maurice Church, New Britain, CT followed by internment at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, CT. Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4-7PM at Kenney-Luddy Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, New Britain, CT.
