Joseph Spring Obituary

SPRING, Joseph N., Sr. Joseph N. Spring, Sr., age 82, of Black Point Rd., Scarborough, ME, passed away on Sunday evening at the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough. He was born in New Britain, on Dec. 6, 1927, a son of Joseph and Florence (Nelson) Spring. He attended UMO and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy. He was commissioned a Lieutenant and spent many years flying helicopters. Mr. Spring worked as an engineer in the ballistics department at Raytheon- developing advanced missile systems during the Cold War. He was a member of the Concord Rod and Gun Club – Pistol Team and enjoyed boating, taking walks with his dog on the beach, and refinishing furniture. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Griggs) Spring and a brother Richard Spring. Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph Spring Jr. of Boxboro, MA, Wilbur Spring of Kensington, and John Spring of Buxton; daughters- Margie Ray of Ashby, MA, and Elizabeth Andexler of Andover, ME; and 13 grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Joseph's life will be held this Saturday at 1 p.m. at his residence, 453 Black Point Rd., in Scarborough, ME. Arrangements are with Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Homes. www.dcpate.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Maine Veterans Home, 290 U.S. Rt. 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.

The past 2 summers there has been a great void at Scarborough beach in the early morning and this will continue as Joe will not be there. He was an inspiration to all to get up and greet the morning, no matter what the weather. The walks on the beach were sometimes quiet, sometimes filled with conversation but always enjoyable. He is remembered each morning as we walk and appreciate the sand dollars, the white stones,the beach goers forgotten items and the sounds of the ocean. We miss him and offer our condolences to his family.
