Everett Miller Obituary

Everett Burton Miller, Jr. passed away on February 9, 2015 at Elim Park Place in Cheshire, CT. He was born on July 15, 1916, the son of Everett and Mildred Miller. He grew up in Hartford, CT and was a graduate of Loomis School (now Loomis- Chaffee) and Yale University, Class of 1938. In 1940, Everett married Margaret Anna Péard, his next door neighbor. Everett joined the Travelers Insurance Company in 1940 in the Albany, NY office and later transferred to the New Haven, CT office before being promoted to a management position in 1949 and transferred to the Company's Home Office in Hartford, CT. While in the Hartford area, they lived in both West Hartford and Farmington. He retired in 1976 as an Assistant Secretary. Boating was Everett's avocation, from his high school years through retirement. The Millers spent many years enjoying the beach and their love of boating. In retirement, they lived eight years full time on their yacht "Big Dipper" while traveling from Down East Maine through southern Texas. They established a retirement home in South Harpswell, Maine near where they courted as teenagers. In 1998 they moved to an assisted living facility, Elim Park Place in Cheshire, CT. Everett was an officer in the Connecticut Outboard Motor Association where he raced small boats. Everett belonged to the City Club of Hartford and the Golf Club of Avon. Everett was a member of the Boy Scouts and the Power Squadron. He was Commodore of the Orr's Bailey Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife Margaret who will continue living at Elim Park Place in Cheshire, his sons, Richard Miller and wife Lynn of Fort Myers Beach, FL, formerly of Canton and Everett Miller, III and wife Lyerka of New York City, NY; four grandchildren, Brad, Bryan, Emily, and Abby; his sister Sally Miller Crabtree of Palm City, FL and his niece Linda Ward Fuller and nephew James Crabtree. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet Miller Ward and her husband Arthur Ward and his brother-in-law, Malcolm Crabtree. A private family service will be held at a later date in West Hartford, Connecticut. Please visit Everett's "Book of Memories" at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.

Correction to the Obituary ... Everett actually retired with a title of Secretary, not Assistant Secretary. My apologies, Dad!
