Dorothy Tuohy Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" (Sullivan) Tuohy, loving wife for 65 years of James F. Tuohy, of West Hartford, passed away Sunday July 17, 2016, with her family at her side. She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Hussey) Sullivan and lived in the area all of her life. Dot was a graduate of the St. Joseph Cathedral School and Weaver High School. Prior to her retirement, she was a Secretary at Emhart Corp for 7 years and then the Head Start program for the Hartford Board of Education for 16 years and finally an Executive Secretary at Martin Luther King School in Hartford for 12 years. Dot cherished her lifelong friendships from St. Justin's Parish and the Blue Hills neighborhood. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the St. Justin's Ladies Guild, the Rawson School PTA, and loved to bowl and square dance. Dot had a strong work ethic, encouraging people to not retire too early, had a wonderful sense of humor and especially loved attending all of her grandchildren's events and family celebrations. She stayed up on current events, would not miss her weekly hair appointment and loved to shop for her whole extended family for the perfect outfit. One of her favorite sayings was "Do you know what you are wearing tomorrow?" Besides her husband, Dot leaves two daughters, Mary Lou Duffy and her husband James of Old Lyme and Geralyn Eagan and her husband Michael of West Hartford, her grandchildren, Audra Battistini and her husband Chris, Allison Froggatt and her husband Steve, Michael Eagan and his wife Elizabeth, Kerry Eagan and Kevin Eagan. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Carter and Sydney Froggatt, Mia Battistini and Tyler Eagan. Dot will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews, Mary Anne Sullivan, Kevin and Betty Sullivan, Tom and Peggy Sullivan, John and Mary Tuohy, Pat and John Leonardi, Nancy and Carl Frobel, Michael and Kathy Tuohy and Jim and Sue Tuohy, many great nieces and nephews as well as the extended Eagan and Duffy families. She was predeceased by her brother Bob and sister-in-law Pat Sullivan, her brothers-in-law Edward Tuohy and Jack and sister-in-law Millie Tuohy and her nephew Bobby Sullivan and great nephew Mike Sullivan. The Tuohy family would like to thank the Caleb Hitchcock Rehab Center staff for their outstanding care she received this last month. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Thursday July 21, 2016 in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave, West Hartford. All attendees are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield. To Mr. Tuohy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. It was so nice getting to know "Dot" at Caleb Hitchcock working with her as her occupational therapist. I will remember our nice conversations during therapy about the neighborhood and of your life long memories. Mr. Tuohy, if you need anything let us know. We are only a few houses away! I hope your memories are soon of comfort. Sincerely Jenny, Chris , Emma and Courtney Frombach

I had the privilege of working with Dot Tuohy early in my career at Martin Luther King School in Hartford. Dot was one classy lady! She was extremely professional, had excellent work ethic and was always impeccably dressed.
Dot was very calm and composed on the outside but had such a great sense of humor. I would often try to shock her by saying something a little out of line. Dot always had an unexpected comeback and we would look at each other and laugh. She made it worth going to work every day and we always had our daily talk and daily laugh. She took good care of me and was a wonderful lady.
I will always have fond memories of Dot. She was a true friend.
I send my deepest sympathy to Jim, Mary Lou, Geralyn and their families.
