He was born in Russell, Kansas, on June 27, 1939, son of the late John David Steinle and Lula Preston Steinle. He received a BS degree in Speech from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and earned a BD degree in 1965 from Yale University. The next year he earned a Master's Degree in Divinity from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, where, from 1966-1970, he served as the H. Richard Niebuhr Instructor in Practical Theology. Rev. He returned to Connecticut in 1981 to become Executive Director of the Christian Activities Council in Hartford. In 2009 he joined Faith Congregational Church in Hartford, where he served as a Trustee and volunteered on the Pastoral Committee. In 2014, after his retirement from the CAC, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Hartford Seminary for his outstanding contributions to the Greater Hartford community.

I'm sorry, but I have just learned of Don's passing. My most sincere condolences to his family. Don and I lived about one-half block apart during our school years in Russell, KS. His birthday was the same as mine. I had my party in the afternoon, and Don had his in the evening. Most years a bad storm would hit about the time his party was over. Some years, all the kids at the party would have to wait out the storm at the Steinle's home. I sincerely appreciated our friendship over the years. I could tell many Donald stories. He was definitely one of the Good Guys! May he rest is peace.

To the Steinle Family:
Dan's work is done down here below, but the light of his life continues to glow. The indelible Impressions he left in our souls, are reflections of a life lived, Godly and bold. We weep because of our loss and pain. Yet Don's sweet memories in our hearts remain. The Comforter is with us as we lay to rest, our beloved gift who gave us his best. So when your eyes see your ears hear or your spirit sighs, it's your heart reminding you of Don's spirit nearby.

Sharon and Marcus, I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was such a mentor for me at CAC. Don lived a great life and supported so many, introducing and connecting people from different walks of life, aligning them together for a single mission. He truly was an expert at that. You guys were the light of his life. I'm so grateful for his mentorship and friendship. I am a better person because God bought me to CAC into the most capable professional hands of Don Steinle. He will be missed but know that his legacy will live forever. May God comfort and bless you during this difficult time. Love, Tori

I will always remember working with Don as a volunteer at the Christian Activities Council and his support of the LEVAS (Lift Every Voice and Sing) Community Organization. Hartford will always be able to look North, South, East and West of the City of Hartford and see the dedicated work of Rev. Donald Steinle and his family who very often worked by his side.

The Board of Directors and the entire volunteer staff will always remember Don's love and support for LEVAS.

Sincerely,

The LEVAS Organization
