James Bassett Obituary



James A. Bassett, 89, of Avon, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017. Born in Bristol, son of the late Joseph I. and Mae N. (Anderson) Bassett, he was raised in Bristol. He graduated as Valedictorian of Bristol High School Class of 1945 and Magna Cum Laude from Yale Class of 1948 with a BS in Economics. James served in the US Air Force as a Major during the Korean War. He spent his business career as partner, with his brother Paul, in the family business, the Bristol Furniture Company before retiring. He was a life member of Bristol Lodge of Elks # 1010. He leaves his brother Paul A. Bassett and his wife Betty of Avon and nieces and nephews Paul Bassett, Jr., Paul and Gail Fons, and Mark and Jeff Dube. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Lois Fons and a niece Karen Dube. His family would like to thank the staff at Hughes Healthcare, especially Richard and Christina for their exceptional care of James. Private family services will be held with burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in James' memory.
