Lawrence Sumner, 88, of Vicco, passed away on May 27, at the Hazard Medical Center. Lawrence was a United States Army veteran and a retired coal miner. He was the son of the late John S. Sumner and the late Sally Sumner. He is also preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Sumner; one daughter, Alice Jean Beverly; two sisters, Callie Lewis and Elmyra Moore; and one brother, Leonard Sumner.
He is survived by his wife, Gevetta Combs Sumner; four sons, Andrew and Pamela Sumner, of Hazard, David and Linda Sumner, of Vicco, Randy and Shawna Sumner, of Vicco, and Ricky Joe Sumner and Stacey, of Vicco; two daughters, Rosie Mae and Walter Turner, of Viper, and Patsy Ann and Alex Beverly, of Vicco; daughter-in-law, Patricia Sumner; one sister, Betty Mae Craig, of Ohio; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Maggard's Mountain View Chapel, where family received friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 29, and funeral services followed with Karl Baker officiating. Interment was at the Sumner Cemetery at Georges Branch.
