ROY SMITH Obituary
ROY JOSEPH SMITH, 73, of South Point, Ohio, passed on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was born January 18, 1943, in Lawrence County, Ohio, the son of the late Clinton R. Smith and Sarah Ramsey Smith. Roy was an Air Force veteran of four years, a 25-year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and former Sheriff of Lawrence County for 8 years. He was also a member of the Ironton Lions Club, the Ohio State Trooper's Association and the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association. Roy was a former Little League baseball coach and a 50-year resident of South Point. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christina Poliacik Smith; three children, Lori (C.J.) Tidball, Gary Smith and Joanna (Scott) Rice; six grandchildren, Brandon Cochran, Brianne Cochran, Samantha Smith, Stephanie Smith, Gary Smith Jr. and Sydney Rice; and seven great-grandchildren, Coleton, Karmen, Isabella, Ryelly, James, Lincoln and Kaleb; and many other loved ones. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at the old South Point High School with Pastor David Fairburn officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the school. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to P.O. Box 93, South Point, OH 45680. These donations will be made in the name of Roy Smith to one or more local charities. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
