Hello Gill Family,
I was a friend of Bim's, Bob Gill Jr's son, in 1963-65 when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale. I then moved to PA and we lost touch. I have been trying to locate him for a number of years and once again tried today and came upon the obituary of your father. I had stayed in touch for a few years and sadly learned of Michael's death. There is mention below of Bim''s death and I am not sure if it is referencing Bim my friend. I am sorry to reach out to you this way. I have a great picture of Bim and me in his hydroplane taken in the time period of 1965 I believe. I would be glad to send a copy if you are interested. Linda, Mary, Bim & Michael and the entire Gill family. Linda the short years that we were together in the early seventies will always be a very big part of my life. When Michael your brother died you came to california to ride back home to florida with me. My heart was so sad for you because he was your little ray of light and you loved him more than anything on this earth. I only wish I could of been there for you when Bim died. Please give your mother my love and tell her, even though George did not like my long hair, He treated me with respect and that in my book means he was a good man. Dear Gill Family,
I just now heard of Mr. Gill's passing and am very saddened to hear of it. I worked for Mr. Gill back in the 80's at the Yankee Trader and Yankee Clipper. Mr. Gill was a true gentleman and a wonderful boss as well as a human being. I remember some hard times I had and Mr. Gill was there to offer his help. For that I am truly grateful and something I will never forget. Thank you for all the fond memories of working in wonderful Ft. Lauderdale and the Gill Family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Gill. He was a great hotelier! I enjoyed the years that I worked for and with him at the Clipper. I learned alot from him. He will be greatly missed in the Fort Lauderdale community.

Just remembering all my fond memories of Mr.Gill. He gave me the opportunity to work at The Yankee Clipper for 48 great years, and I always knew him to be a good man.

Every now and again we are lucky enough to be blessed with the opportunity to meet somebody who has made a difference. Somebody who has taken life by the horns to change what is and will be. And in the wake of this person; communities, families and lives are changed for the better. Bob Gill was this person, not only for me, but for my family who so unconditionaly loved him for everything he stood for. For that I am forever thankful. Mr Gill you will be missed, but your legacy will live thru enternity.

Somewhere in the early '50's I was pianist at the Black Magic Room in Miami. I was asked to play accompanyment for a co-worker's audition. Bob Gill hired her--- (only if the pianist comes with her!!).We opened the Jolly Roger Hotel.When we entered the hotel that evening it was sitting on a lot of sand and had two unhappy flamingos in a pool in the lobby!
When we left after work we walked out into a tropical paradise with full grown palm trees and hibiscus bushes in bloom!
I am 83 years old and have worked half of my life in all the Gill hotels & no one ever had a greater boss & friend. He also had the sweetest wife any guy was lucky enough to know. Fort Lauderdale was indeed very fortunate to have had such a creative and innovative citizen.

Hi Linda, so sorry to hear about your Dad he had a long and great life. I have fond memories of him, he used to call me on a daily basis after we left the hotel just to talk about things and he was very kind. A very "hands on" business man who left a great mark on the area.

Sorry for your loss. We all loved him very much. He was the best boss you could ask for. I always looked up to him with great respect and admiration. He was so caring and a real joy to know all the years you were at the hotel. It was a pleasure to work for him because you wanted to. It was a sad day after more than 20 years he left the hotel but my sadness today is gladdened by remembering the smile he would always put on your face.

Many of the Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods he developed in the 1950s happily still retain their original character and are regarded by many as true "old Florida." Linda and family....very sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I didn't know him but knew of him. When I sold newspapers on the beach in the late 50's as a young boy, we always went to theEscape to knock on doors and sell papers. His hotels were the best.
