MICHAEL RAYMOND GILL

MICHAEL GILL Obituary

GILL, MICHAEL RAYMOND, born July 2, 1949, of Miami, Florida, died unexpectedly at home, on August 31, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Judge Maxine Cohen Lando, father of Tracy Sysk, Mark Gill, April Walton, Daniel Gill; stepfather of Rachel and Sari Lando; brother of Janice Gill Gordillo; uncle of Christopher and Nicole Gordillo; grandfather of seven loving grandchildren. He was pre- deceased by his parents, Sylvia and Michael B. Gill. Michael was a dedicated Critical Care nurse at several distinguished Miami hospitals. His patients, and their families always appreciated his kindness and patience at the most difficult of times. He earned his professional degree, and B.S., from Florida A. & M. University, Tallahassee, Florida. Maxine and Michael met while both were students at Coral Gables High School in the 1960's. They were both members of Temple Bet Shira. During his marriage to Maxine, they lived life intensely, traveled throughout the world, and he perfected downhill skiing. Michael was an avid ping pong player, and a persistent jogger. He loved the roar of loud motorcycles, the faster the better! Michael also cut quite an elegant figure on a dance floor. He embraced life with passion, integrity and love. We will miss him unto eternity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Bet Shira Synagogue, University of Miami Chabad or American Diabetes Foundation. Services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 in the afternoon. Arrangements handled by Riverside Gordon Funeral Home. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Dear Maxine: I stopped by your facebook page to wish you a happy high holy day season, and was shocked and saddened to read of Michael's passing. You are in our thoughts during this trying time. You, Cantor Kula, and the entire Bet Shira family were so wonderful to me for so many years. I look back fondly on the music we made together, and am grateful for the friendship that formed from those experiences. Patty and I will always be grateful to you for officiating our wedding ceremony.

We will really miss you, Dad. You were a patient, honest and fun father. Great with kids and cats everywhere as well as a great "crooner", (could've been famous for those vocal chords). You taught us the importance of proper language skills and manners - and all manner of silliness! We love you - and even though we could not see you often, we miss you. I am thankfull to our Heavenly Father that you had some fun here with Maxine before you beat us to the eternal party. My heart goes out to her.

Even those of us that have had our differences cannot but express our distraught and a piercing of the heart to hear of the passing of your dearest. My sympathy and compassion go out to you and every one you hold dear who share in this tremendous loss to us all. But we all know that you are a strong and visionary woman and will emerge even stronger with more focus and compassion as the shock subsides. My wife and I feel for you and are praying for you.

Maxine, I can't tell how sorry I am to hear of Michael's passing. He was such a great person and so understanding. He always came to our reunions and was always willing to share you with all of us and never say a word. I really enjoyed the last reunion as we got a chance to really have a nice chat and I will always remember that. I know how much he meant to you and if you need someone to talk to I am always here for you. You are the best and I know how much you will miss such a great friend and husband.

Maxine, as I saw you at the services today you looked, as expected, distraught yet elegant.I cannot possibly imagine what it must feel to lose a spouse at such young age. But it must give you comfort to see so many of your court family present to share your grief.Cris and I extend our condolences and hope that you will remember the many happy times that you had. Dear Maxine and Family,
It will be the little things that
you will remember about Michael,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push away the pain
and bring the smiles back again.
Words, however kind,
can't mend your heartache:
but those who care and
share your loss wish you
comfort and peace of mind.
May you find strength
in the love of family
and in the warm embrace
of friends.
Please call if you think
of anyway we can assist.
Our Deepest Sympathy.
Love, Bruce & Ilene
